A story that’s more than paper deep.
The Canadian Rockies are an awe-inspiring natural wonder that attracts people from all over the world and is a place I’ve been honoured to call home for the last seven years. With its majestic mountain ranges, aquamarine lakes, blue rivers, and lush forests, the Canadian Rockies create a breathtaking haven, offering an escape from the ordinary, the chance to start anew, and a canvas for self-discovery.
The depth of this collection goes far beyond mere ink on paper; it encapsulates a profound transformational story that has taken me until now to fully articulate. As Brad Stulberg aptly says, “It’s true that you often grow from adversity, but that growth happens on the other side. When you are in the thick of it, it’s okay if your job is simply getting through.”
I started this collection in 2022 after a near career-ending wrist injury. The previous year was a relentless cycle of medical consultations, concluding in a devastating diagnosis that I may never draw again. Fighting the odds, I started rehabilitation in the new year, and as the months turned warmer and I began spending more time in the natural wonders of the Rockies, I started to feel a glimmer of myself again - and I began to hope.
These iconic places moved me. They sparked a fire within me that awakened my soul and strengthened my spirit. Each place serendipitously inspired invaluable lessons I learned on my arduous path to recovery, such as…
You have agency and influence over your life. Tenacity and self-belief yield unmatched rewards. The magic is in the journey. Joy can be cultivated. Self-love fosters self-respect. Adversity often leads to the most magical, beautiful, and inspiring parts of our lives.
With every pencil stroke and each drawing, I regained the function and strength of my wrist, healed the chronic pain, and emerged stronger and more resilient than before.
The Canadian Rockies hold so much wonder and beauty and possess a transformative power over us that defies explanation. Nature rejuvenates and inspires us, and the Rockies serve as a potent elixir that can kick-start our hearts and heal our souls.
